.....John Gorka - Morningside

Morningside

Am I a fool at this late date
To heed a voice that says,
You can be great

I heard it young, now I hear it again
It says, you can be better than you've ever been

Chorus:
Don't want to waste what I have to give
In all of the time that I've left to live
Don't want to waste what I have to give
In any of the time that I've got left
I can do more than I thought I could
Work brings more luck than knocking on wood
There's random bad and random good
Work brings more good luck

You ask the world
And the world says,
no It's the world's refrain
Mine says, go
You ask the world
And the world says, no
It's an old world refrain
Mine says, go

Chorus:
Don't want to waste what I have to give
In all of the time that I've left to live
Don't want to waste what I have to give
In any of the time that I've got left
I can do more than I thought I could
Work brings more luck than knocking on wood
There's random bad and random good
Work brings more good luck

Better be off
I've got dreams to dream
Though it seems uphill and a little extreme
If I can find hope in this fading light
Then I'll find you on the morningside

John Gorka recorded the first version of the Morningside on "The Company You Keep" (Red House Records, 2001)

John Gorka - Morningside
The Company You Keep version from 2001.

Nice cover from Morningside made by Bill Evans & Megan Lynch.

Since teaming up as a touring duo in late 2007, Albany, CA and Nashville, TN bluegrass mainstays Bill Evans & Megan Lynch have been performing all around the United States and in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Special story about Mormingside & videoclip by Jenni Alpert in 2018:
"The special song that impacted us at the start our biological reunion: John Gorka’s Song Morningside"

John Gorka’s Song Morningside is a special one for us because it is one of the songs we listened to on repeat together during the first two weeks of hanging out on the streets of long beach after my birth father Don and I reunified. It was during these listening seasons and “family fun field trips” doing special and fun things together that he began contemplating change and decided to turn himself in to the law to stop running and to stop doing heavy drugs ....

< A Norwegian version of Morningside
Rita Eriksen from Olso recorded in 2008 the Norwegian version of Morningside ("Morgengry") on her CD "Hjertenslag".

A live "Morningside" version
John Gorka performs "Morningside" at the Rogue Folk Club (St.Jame's Hall) in Vancouver on Feb. 12, 2012. Recorded by Rogue Folk Club.
